Towering Coachella Valley LED Sign To Be Lit Along Interstate 10

INDIO (CBSLA.com) — An Coachella Valley casino will unveil a new, 88-foot-tall LED sign Wednesday night that will likely become a beacon of light for travelers along the Interstate 10.

The Fantasy Springs Resort Casino will turn on its towering sign for the first time at sundown Wednesday in the courtyard between the Special Events Center and the hotel, after a blessing ceremony by local tribal elders.

The sign will be one of the tallest in the Coachella Valley, rivaled only by Morongo Casino's sign further to the west. Both signs are about 80 feet, Fantasy Springs spokesman Chris Lavoie said.

The sign was built by Yesco LLC and features twin 10.32 mm pixel pitch LED screens capable of playing video at 60 frames per second. According to casino representatives, the screens will boast the highest resolution available in LED technology.

The screens will face both the east and west and are mounted atop a new, brightly-colored landmark pylon in front of the casino and along the freeway.

Cabazon Band of Mission Indians Tribal Chairman Doug Welmas will speak at 5:30 p.m. and Tribal Elder Joe Benitez will lead the blessing ceremony before the sign is illuminated for the first time.

The event is free to the public.
