Ontario Homeowner Shoots Intruder Found In Daughter's Bedroom

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Police Tuesday investigated the circumstances surrounding a shooting that took place inside a home in Ontario.

Shortly after midnight, officers were sent to a home located in the 1800 block of North Parkside Court for report of a shooting, according to the Ontario Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned a male intruder -- who was later identified as Jose Andres Alfaro Chavez, 33, of Ontario -- broke into the home through a back door while the family was sound asleep.

"My daughter heard a noise in her room and then I got up," said homeowner Art Corral.

Corral told CBS2's Jasmine Viel he grabbed his gun and found Chavez standing in the dark wearing only his underwear. As Chavez moved towards him, he fired three rounds.

Paramedics transported Chavez to a hospital in critical condition. At this time, he remains in surgery.

Neighbors said Chavez was picked up by police two hours earlier for knocking on people's doors and trespassing into a backyard. They described him as a homeless man who talked about demons and clutched a Bible.

No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
