Study: LA Ranks As Second-Worst City For Cell Phone Performance

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Results of a new study measuring network coverage of mobile phones may prove that living in a densely populated city may not always provide the best service.

Researchers with RootMetrics ranked the top 125 most populated areas in the country across six categories: overall performance, network reliability, network speed, call performance, data performance and text performance.

According to the report, Los Angeles finished in the bottom half of the rankings, marking 94th place for overall performance, 105th for network reliability, 55th for network speed and data performance, 108th for call performance and 90th for text performance.

Verizon proved to be the best carrier in Los Angeles with the fastest download speeds of 19.5 megabytes per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 21.5 Mbps.

Atlanta and Chicago were ranked as the top two cities for best overall performance.
