Metro Gold Line Reopens After Fiery Crash Damages Newly Opened Track

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Rails on both sides of the Metro Gold Line reopened early Monday just in time for the wet morning commute, just 24 hours after a burning truck ended up on the track.

The crash, which occurred on the westbound side of the Foothill (210) Freeway near San Gabriel Boulevard at about 3:12 a.m. Sunday, had damaged the wires that power the trains, Lt. J. Wargo of Sheriff's Transit Services said.

Service had to be suspended on the brand new eastern extension of the Gold Line on its first full day.

The tractor trailer was going west on the 210 Freeway when the driver lost control and slammed into a center guard rail, closing all lanes and forcing the Gold Line to shut down between the Allen and Arcadia stations.

The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, fire officials said.

The freeway was reopened by 3:15 p.m. Sunday, but the track's repairs were not announced until 3:26 a.m. Monday.
