Measuring Sticks To Ensure Subway Footlongs Are 12 Inches After Class-Action

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Subway will begin using measuring sticks after settling a class-action lawsuit that alleged that its footlong sandwiches weren't 12 inches long.

The lawsuit claimed the fast-food restaurant's footlong sandwiches were around 11 inches long.

As part of the settlement, Subway agreed to implement new measures in every shop to ensure all loaves are at least 12 inches.

Named plaintiffs of the class will each receive $500 as part of the settlement, according to the Associated Press, and Subway agreed to require franchisees to use bread-measuring instruments.

A judge late last month granted final approval of the settlement between the plaintiffs' attorneys and Doctor's Associates, Subway's parent company.

Subway, according to the AP, said in a statement that it was pleased the judge found no wrongdoing on its part.

The Subway statement in part went on to say "we have already taken steps to ensure each guest receives the Footlong or six-inch sandwich they order," the publication reported.
