Fontana Police Officer Rescues Dog From Burning Home

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A Fontana police officer was able to rescue a dog that was left inside of a burning home, authorities said Tuesday.

Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, Officer Jorge Rodriguez responded to a property located in the 16700 block of Athol for report of smoke showing from inside of a residence, according to the Fontana Police Department.

Upon his arrival, Rodriguez located the home fully engulfed in flames and heard whimpering coming from the back of the residence.

While walking around the property, Rodriguez located a small dog, named Diamond, behind a security screen door. As he pried open the door, Diamond scurried out of the burning house.

Authorities said Diamond inhaled a large amount of smoke during the fire, but overall remains in good condition.

The homeowner was not on the property when the fire erupted.

San Bernardino County firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
