Security Video Shows Small Plane Crashes On Busy Street In Pacoima

PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — A small plane crashed on a busy street in Pacoima Monday, and the collision was caught on camera.

Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot tried to return to Whiteman Airport shortly after takeoff when his Mooney M20 crashed at about 1:30 p.m.

"The pilot ended up landing on San Fernando Road south of the airport," Gregor said. "The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured." He walked away from the wreckage.

The aircraft damaged five parked cars and ended up in the middle of the street with one of its wings torn off from the impact. There were no people in those vehicles.

But the plane also struck a moving car before it spun around and came to a stop, a security video showed.

It was a close call for Nicolas Jimenez who was driving that car. "Right when I realized it was about to hit me. That's when I accelerated and swerved out of the way," he said. He was not hurt either.
