Man Charged In Dodger Stadium Parking Lot Assault
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Southland man was charged Thursday in connection with an assault on a man fan in a Dodger Stadium parking lot following Game 1 of the National League Division Series.
Michael Rae Papayans, 27, is scheduled to make his first court appearance on March 11 on a felony count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury with an allegation that he caused great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors say Papayans punched a 50-year-old man in the head, knocking him unconscious, after the game. When the man fell to the ground, he hit his head on the pavement, sustaining a serious head injury.
District Attorney's officials say Papayans' mother, who was not identified, kicked the man in the back while he was on the ground. A potential misdemeanor case against her has been referred to the District Attorney's office, but prosecutors have not yet determined if charges should be filed.
Papayans' mother had allegedly yelled epithets at four people, one of whom was wearing Mets gear, as they headed to their car after the game. Papayans then joined in before punching the man, who was not in Mets attire, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Papayans was arrested Feb. 11 but released the next day on $30,000 bail. If convicted as charged, he faces up to seven years in state prison.
