2 Arrested In 19-Minute Pasadena Arson Spree

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Two men are in custody Thursday in connection with a series of arson fires set within 20 minutes of each other in Pasadena.

Thyler Trotter, 19, of Altadena and Nicholas Roether, 23, of Los Angeles were arrested Wednesday on several counts of arson and are both being held on $250,000 bail.

The two men were captured on surveillance video and identified by a witness who recognized the two men, Pasadena Fire spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

The first fire was reported in the 600 block of South Raymond Avenue at about 2:51 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters found two city trash cans and discarded furniture on fire, and in short order had to respond to four more fires involving dumpsters in an alley four block longs over a 19-minute period.

"These two suspects showed no regard for public safety.  These fires could have easily spread to adjacent structures," Pasadena Fire Chief Bertral Washington said in a statement.

Both men are scheduled to make their first court appearance Friday.
