1 Dead After Electrical Transformer Falls On Pickup In Arleta
ARLETA (CBSLA.com) — The driver of a pickup truck that slammed into a power pole, bringing three large transformers down on top of the vehicle, was killed Wednesday on a street in Arleta.
The crash occurred at about 5:30 p.m., as the pickup driver drove past the scene were two other cars were involved in a collision and hit the power pole.
Firefighters worked to extract two other victims, who escaped with minor injuries and declined to be hospitalized.
Power was briefly shut off in the immediate area to protect against electrocution and was restored to all customers in the area later in the evening.
The fallen transponder also leaked oil onto the street, further complicating the cleanup.
Bystanders were horrified by how quickly the scene turned fatal.
"This is tragic," witness Marco Sanchez said.
