Ontario Police Say Homeowner Fatally Shot Suspect Who Tried To Force His Way Into Residence

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) —  Ontario Police say a resident fatally shot a man he said was trying to force his way into his home.

The shooting took place just before 5:15 a.m. Sunday police said.

A resident in the 800 block of West Mission Boulevard called police to say her husband had just shot a suspect who tried to force his way into their residence. Authorities described the man as a burglary suspect.

On arrival, police said they found a 26-year-old LA resident deceased in the entry way.

The man's identity was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

CBS2's Jennifer Kastner spoke to the still-shaken homeowner.

He didn't want to appear on camera. Nearly 15 hours later, he was still talking to grief counselors.

Officials do not believe the homeowner and the dead man knew each other.

At this point the homeowner isn't being charged with anything but the investigation is on-going, officials told Kastner.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Detective Robert Marquez at (909) 395-2777.
