2 Bodies Found In West Hills Burned Garage

WEST HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Two bodies were found in a converted, detached garage burned by a fire in West Hills Wednesday.

James Lua and his wife were coming back from the gym at about 10:10 a.m. when they saw something burning behind a house in the 22500 block of W. Vanowen Street.

He said he stopped, made a U-turn, and his instincts kicked in. "I had my wife call the 911," Lua said. "Another guy came out, and he said: 'Hey! Here's the hose.' He turned the hose on. I went inside and put my head inside the window where the burning extension to hose it down. And then after five minutes, the cop came."

According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart, firefighters put out the fire in 17 minutes and discovered the bodies in the charred rubble.

Now, arson investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire. And the medical examiner will determine how the two people died.
