2 of 3 Escapees Visited South El Monte Salon Day After OC Jailbreak
SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — The day after three inmates escaped from Orange County's Central Men's Jail on Jan. 22, two of the fugitives visited a South El Monte hair salon.
Tina Tran owns Lucky Hair Salon at 9646 Garvey Ave. Despite around-the-clock media coverage on the hunt for the escapees, the stylist insisted she had no idea that customers, Bac Duong and Jonathan Tieu, were subjects of a massive manhunt up and down the state.
Tran said Duong was a customer she had not seen in years. She said he asked to get his hair cut and dyed black. "He sit down. And I just hair cut for him, and I color."
After he was done, Tieu got a quick trim around his ears.
Tran said Duong then asked to use a phone at her salon, telling her it was a local call. She said she never saw the third fugitive, Hossein Nayeri.
Duong paid for the services with a $100 in cash and left a $5 tip.
Before leaving the salon, Tran said Duong left a $5 bill at the Buddhist shrine at the exit.
