SANTA MONICA (  —  The Santa Monica Police Department is hoping the public can lead them to a sexual assault suspect.

Police released the composite sketch of a suspect they said sexually assaulted a pedestrian on January 13th on the beach.

Officials said the women was walking south along the waterline about 6:15 p.m. on the 13th.

She said a man walking in the opposite direction passed her and said something in Spanish. She told police she kept walking and told the man she wanted to be left alone.

The alleged victim told police the man turned around, grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground and began physically and sexually assaulting her. After the assault, the woman said the man fled north and out of sight.

She described the suspect as a light-skinned Latino or white, in his 30’s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 180 pounds. She said the man was wearing dark colored pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.

The investigation is ongoing.
