Police Investigate String Of Burglaries At Subway Shops In San Fernando Valley

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com)   —  Detectives are investigating a string of burglaries at Subway sandwich shops in the San Fernando Valley.

CBS2's Jennifer Kastner on Saturday reported from one location in North Hollywood.

The Subway in North Hollywood was hit sometime between 11 p.m. Friday night and 3:45 a.m. this morning, she reported.

The suspect, or suspects, smashed through the front door to gain entry.

LAPD said this was the 9th Subway burglary in the past month. All nine occurred in the Valley, three in North Hollywood along the Sherman Way corridor.

The burglaries all have had the same pattern. The suspect -- or suspects -- break the front door, race in, empties the cash register and takes the tip jar.

There have been no victims physically hurt in the robberies which have occurred when the stores are closed to customers.

Police believe it's the work of the same person or same group.

"I've been around 20 years," says LAPD Lieutenant Doug Humphrey, "and sometimes we see patterns, when someone gets comfortable with a certain routine. A criminal will conduct a pattern type of crimes because they like to keep things simple."

The LAPD is asking the public to call them if they see anything unusual or suspicious outside a Subway in the late hours.
