Woman Found Dead Inside Newport Beach Business

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Tuesday were investigating the death of a woman at a business in Newport Beach.

Officers were sent to the 5000 block of Campus Drive around 12:30 a.m. this morning after receiving a request to make a welfare check, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

NB murder 2Officers said the male caller stressed he was concerned about his missing friend.

Upon their arrival at Robert Borders & Associates, which services architecture, planning and commercial interiors -- authorities located a woman believed to be 20 to 25 years old.

"[The] female victim was found dead inside one of the buildings," said Deputy Chief David McGill. "She had no obvious signs of trauma."

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

"We are investigating the case as a homicide," said Sgt. T. McKenzie. "We are not sure how she died. We will let the coroner investigate that."

No suspect information has been provided at this time. Police are searching for a white van that left the area.

It remains unclear if the victim worked in the corporate plaza.

Employees were told to return home for the day.

The man who requested for the welfare check to be conducted is cooperating with police and is not being considered a suspect at this time.

Officers stressed there is no immediate threat to the public. Detectives believe this is an isolated incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
