Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle On Northbound 5 Freeway In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man has been fatally struck by a vehicle on the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights, officers said Tuesday.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, the traffic collision unfolded just before 1 a.m. located on the northbound lanes of the freeway just north of State Street.

Upon their arrival, authorities located the victim, who is believed to have been around 50-years-old, lying in the lanes of the freeway.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed a woman struck the man with the mirror of her vehicle.

No motorists stopped to provide assistance to him following the collision.

CHP officers have subsequently closed two right lanes of the freeway until further notice.

At this time, it remains unclear what the victim was doing on the freeway.
