3 Killed, 1 In Critical Condition In Crash In Marina Del Rey

MARINA DEL REY (CBSLA.com) — At least three people have been reported dead in a single-car accident Monday in Marina del Rey.

Two victims were reportedly thrown from the car, but it was unclear if they were among those killed in the accident.

One other victim has been transported to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition.

The accident occurred at the corner of Old Harbor Lane and Via Marina Road in Marina del Rey.

The crash reportedly involved two cars, despite reports that it was a single-car crash earlier in the afternoon.

A totaled four-door Honda Civic was the overturned car visible from the sky.

KCAL9's Jeff Nguyen spoke with a security guard at a nearby apartment complex who witnessed the crash.

He said that two cars were traveling westbound on Via Marina, when a male driver of the Honda Civic sped up in order to get around the second car.

The man in the Honda hit a curve in the road, slammed on the brakes but hit the center divider and his car was flipped.

CHP Officer Patrick Stafford confirmed that there were three fatalities, while one female was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

CHP also announced that one woman and two men were killed.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
