4 Killed, 1 Injured After Christmas Day Fire Erupts In Big Bear Lake Home

BIG BEAR LAKE (CBSLA.com) — A Christmas Day fire that erupted inside of a home in Big Bear Lake has claimed the lives of four people, officials said Friday.

Just before 6 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a fire burning at a home located in the 500 block of Alden Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located the home fully engulfed in flames.

An adult man, who was found injured outside of the home, told deputies there were four people still inside the residence.

Authorities were able to evacuate the homes located on each side of the involved residence without incident.

Big Bear Lake Fire personnel were called to assist at the scene.

Firefighters attempted rescue efforts, but they had to pull back due to an impending roof collapse.

According to deputies, an adult woman and three young children were killed in the fire. The woman was identified as Maria de Los Angeles.

She was pulled out of the fire and given life-saving efforts before she died.

Her children, 6-month old Pearla, 3-year old Andres, and 8-year old Citlali all perished as well.

The adult man, identified as Jose Carlos, was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
