Suspect In Custody Following Shooting Death Of 37-Year-Old Woman In Colton

COLTON (CBSLA.com) —   Authorities have announced the arrest of a homicide suspect in Colton.

Officers with the Colton Police Department were called to the 1200 block of  E. Washington Street Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired.

On arrival, officers located a female victim who suffered apparent gunshot wounds to her upper body.

The unidentified 37-year-old victim was taken to nearby Loma Linda University Medical Center where she succumbed to her wounds.Her name is being withheld until her next of kin is notified.

The suspect left the scene, acquired another vehicle nearby, and fled eastbound on Washington Street.

The suspect, identified as Jason Barton, 38, of Moreno Valley, was located in San Diego, and turned over to the Colton Police Department. He is currently being booked into the San Bernardino County Jail West Valley Detention Center on murder charges.

Barton is also being investigated by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and the San Diego Police Department for crimes he allegedly committed in their jurisdictions including parole violations, police said.

City News Service reported Thursday that Barton is also a suspect in another murder in Moreno Valley. In that crime, they reported Barton shot one man fatally and wounded another woman.
