Magnitude-3.1 Earthquake Rattles Area Near Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.1 has struck the area near Newport Beach, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS says the quake struck Sunday afternoon about 2 miles east of Newport Beach and 3 miles south-southeast of Costa Mesa.

The quake was felt in Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine, and in the Newport Coast, according to the USGS.

Responses on the CBS Los Angeles Facebook page also indicated that the quake was felt in Orange and Santa Ana as well.

So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries.
