Several Charged In Connection With Assault Deputies Say Was Caught On Video

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say several people have been charged in connection with an assault that unfolded on an train in Los Angeles.

The incident happened last Tuesday between 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on a northbound Metro Blue Line train.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, that's when one of the suspects approached a patron on the train and began to punch her in the face and body.

During the incident, deputies allege that the suspect also began to pull the victim's purse and backpack. Once the train stopped, the victim told authorities that she tried to flee but a second assault occurred.

Subsequent to the assault, authorities say video of the incident was posted on social media sites. The incident was also captured on the train's on-board video system.

One of the suspects was identified as Aliyah Von Lewis, 18, of Long Beach.

Authorities said Von Lewis was arrested and charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily harm.

Two juveniles were also detained at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.

One faced the same charges as Von Lewis, according to deputies, while the other individual is being charged with attempting to dissuade a witness from calling the police and assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily harm.

Authorities said more arrests are possible.
