Planned Parenthood Opens New Health Center In West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) held a grand opening Tuesday for their new health clinic in the city of West Hollywood.

The clinic, located at 825 North San Vicente Boulevard, formally opened to the public amid increased security in light of the recent killings that took place at a clinic in Colorado Springs.

According to the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department, there was no imminent threat posed to the facility, which is located right across the street from their station.

City officials say the health clinic originally opened during the summer, but PPLA decided to make their presence known on World AIDS Day.

The facility offers a full range of reproductive health care services including gynecological exams, cervical cancer screenings, breast exams, STD testing and treatment, birth control, abortion services, counseling and education.

In 2016, the clinic will begin providing Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), and medications that are critical to reducing new HIV infections.

West Hollywood's clinic marks the twentieth health center to open in Los Angeles County. It is the first facility to open in Los Angeles in three years.

PPLA serves more than 150,000 women and men across Los Angeles County each year.
