Bomb Squad Responds To Suspicious Package With 'Stop Christmas' Message At Sherman Oaks Mall

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — An LAPD bomb squad responded Saturday to a report of a suspicious package found in the Christmas decorating area of a San Fernando Valley mall, authorities said.

The bomb squad was dispatched to the Westfield Fashion Square at 14006 Riverside Drive in Sherman Oaks at 7:40 a.m, according to Officer Jane Kim of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

Police closed the mall and surrounding streets until the item was cleared shorty after 10:30 a.m.

The item was later described by police as an "egg wrapped in duct tape only."

Earlier in the day, KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reported the call involved an "ornament-sized" item wrapped in duct tape with wires and the words "Stop Christmas"

Riverside was briefly closed between Woodman Avenue and Hazeltine Street.
