Search Continues In East LA For 3 Suspects Wanted In Deadly Park Shooting

EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives continued to search Monday for three suspects who are wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred at a park in East Los Angeles.

The shooting attack unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday, located in Ruben Salazar Park, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Upon their arrival to the 3800 block of Whittier Boulevard, deputies located three shooting victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Paramedics transported one of two of the men to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.

One of the victims, who has been identified as 28-year-old Johnny Aguilar, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Officials said he leaves behind his wife and three children who are all under the age of 6.

The condition of the the other victim was not immediately known.

A third victim -- who was later identified as Tony Aguilar, 33, of Palmdale -- was pronounced dead at the scene. He is survived by his wife and 9-month-old son.

A preliminary investigation revealed the Aguilar brothers were on the basketball court with their cousin before the shooting took place.

At one point, a heavyset Hispanic man, a heavyset Hispanic woman and a male Hispanic juvenile approached the victims and began conversation. The man then pulled out a handgun and fired off several rounds.

The three suspects then fled on foot heading east toward Ditman Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing as the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
