2 Dead In South LA Crash Involving Suspected Drunk Driver

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) Two people were killed and another person was critically injured early Sunday morning in a crash in South Los Angeles that involved a suspected drunk driver and a mother of three driving a van.

A man later identified as the member of a motorcycle club died at the scene and the mother of three was pronounced dead at an area hospital, the L.A. coroner's office.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 1358 W. 59th St. at 12:32 a.m., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department. One person declined to be transported to an area hospital.

A 36-year-old man speeding southbound on Normandie Avenue in a Buick LaSabre lost control of his car at Slauson Avenue and hit a Honda Odyssey that was at Slauson Avenue, the LAPD said.

The Buick then continued southbound where it fatally struck a 48-year-old man, Brady said.

The 48-year old man was identified as Willie Walker Jr.

The vice president of the Persuaders Motorcycle Club told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz that the man killed was a member of that motorcycle club. Mangled motorcycles could be seen at the scene Sunday morning.

The suspected drunken driver was being treated at an area hospital, and was later arrested.

The condition of the woman's three children was not immediately known.
