25-Year-Old Dad Behind Bars For Allegedly Putting 5-Month-Old Son Into Coma Following Abuse

TWENTY NINE PALMS (CBSLA.com)  —   Officials say a 25-year-old Twenty Nine Palms father abused his 5-month-old son and the baby is now in a coma.

Authorities said on Thursday, at approximately 9:57 a.m., deputies from the Morongo Sheriff's Station responded to the 5800 block of Octotillo Ave. in Twenty Nine Palms to assist with a medical aid call involving a 5-month old who was reportedly not breathing.

Upon arrival, deputies saw adults doing CPR on the baby. Fire personnel arrived shortly thereafter. The baby was taken to Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment.

Doctors determined the baby had a traumatic brain injury and was airlifted to Loma Linda Children's Hospital where he remains hospitalized and in a coma.

A coordinated investigation involving Morongo detectives and detectives from the Crimes Against Children unit, lead to the arrest of the baby's father, Armando Espinosa.

The father was booked into the Central Detention Center for felony child abuse involving great bodily injury resulting in a comatose state.

Espinosa's bail is set at $500,000
