Scott Van Slyke's Dad Suggests Kershaw Has Asked Dodgers To 'Get Rid Of Puig'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — As the Los Angeles Dodgers continue to search for a new manager, another roster controversy could potentially be in the making, at least according to one team insider.

Former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Andy Van Slyke, who is also the father of Dodgers outfielder Scott Van Slyke, told CBS Sports Radio 920 the Dodgers' "highest-paid player" - which would be pitcher Clayton Kershaw - has reportedly told team officials that Yasiel Puig needs to go.

Speaking on "The Hollywood Casino Press Box", Slyke suggested that Kershaw personally made the demand to Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi.

Said Van Slyke on live radio: "This is just between you and I. When the best player - the highest paid player on the Los Angeles Dodgers - goes to the GM and...is asked what are (the needs of the Los Angeles Dodgers), this particular highest-paid player said, 'The first thing you need to do is get rid of Puig.' That's all you need to know."

When the host first suggested it was an "Adrian Gonzalez quote", Slyke quickly corrected him, saying, "He's not the highest-paid player."

Kershaw, who signed a seven-year $215 million contract with the Dodgers in 2014, is the team's highest-paid player.

The interview comes as the Dodgers reportedly have narrowed their managerial search down to three candidates, according to the Los Angeles Times.
