Traffic Expected During Vice Pres. Joe Biden's Visit To Southern California

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities warned of possible traffic congestion during Vice President Joe Biden's visit to the Southland Monday.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will join Biden for a roundtable discussion on ways to develop clean technology and job creation in the Southland and nationally.

The event will be staged at the L.A. Cleantech Incubator, founded in 2011 to serve as the hub of the city's economic strategy to create a green economy and become less dependent on "foreign fuels."

Biden is scheduled to arrive sometime Monday morning and is expected to attend a Democratic fundraiser this evening. He is scheduled to return to Washington on Tuesday.

City officials advised commuters to avoid the following areas:

— Northbound and southbound lanes of Sepulveda between Lincoln and Century boulevards will be closed for an eight minute period between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

— Hewitt between Palmetto and East 5th streets from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

— Medium to large sized trucks will be restricted on Palmetto between South Alameda and Mateo streets between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

— Colyton between Palmetto and East 5th streets between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

— South Alameda between East 4th and East 6th streets from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

— Medium to large sized trucks and parking on South Figueroa between 7th and 8th streets will be restricted from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

— South Figueroa Street between West Olympic and Wilshire boulevards from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

— West Pico Boulevard between Overland Avenue and Century Park East from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

— Avenue of the Stars between West Pico and West Olympic boulevards from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

— Santa Monica Boulevard between Beverly Drive and South Beverly Glen Boulevard from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Merv Griffin Way between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards will be closed to southbound traffic from 10 a.m. today until 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Medium to large sized trucks will be restricted on Santa Monica Boulevard between Avenue of the Stars and Wilshire Boulevard between 7 p.m. tonight 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Avoid the area around Santa Monica between Wilshire and Sawtelle boulevards from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
