Construction Project Will Partially Close 15 Freeway In Corona

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — Beginning Monday, the 15 Freeway will partially close to allow for the construction of a new connector bridge to the 91 Freeway in Corona.

According to the Riverside County Transportation Commission, overnight closures are scheduled on the southbound 15 Freeway at the 91 interchange on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The closures will occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night.

Motorists traveling southbound on the freeway during these times will be routed around the construction zone through McKinley Street and then directed back to the freeway by Magnolia Avenue along with other surface streets.

During this time, crews will install temporary infrastructure to allow for the permanent placement of a new express lane connector, which will link the freeways together.

Motorists have been asked to travel at lower speeds in construction areas.

The "91 Project Fast Forward" will widen the east and west corridors between the Orange County line and the 15 Freeway with new traffic lanes and ramps, additional shoulder space and wider surface streets.

The $1.3 billion project, which began in early 2014, is slated to wrap up at the end of 2017.
