Dozens Of Vehicles Still Stuck In Mud On Highway 58 In Kern County
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Crews digging vehicles out from under tons of mud that clogged Southern California roadways during flash flooding three days ago are dealing with another round of rain on Sunday.
A light drizzle blanketed the region Sunday morning, but forecasters say there's little chance of thunderstorms like those that unleashed debris flows Thursday, damaging dozens of homes and trapping hundreds of cars on highways and roads.
State transportation officials say at least 30 vehicles remain stuck in now-hardened mud along State Route 58 in Kern County. Officials hope to reopen the lanes by Thursday.
More than 100 cars and semi-trucks were trapped on State Route 58 in the flooding.
Hundreds of cars also were stuck on Interstate 5, a major artery, but those vehicles were cleared and the freeway reopened by late Friday.
