Police Search For Armed Man In Westwood

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police on Tuesday evening were searching for an armed man in Westwood after receiving a call that a man with a gun was waiting for his ex-girlfriend when she returned to her apartment near the UCLA campus.

A SWAT team entered the apartment building where they believed the armed man to be hiding -- on the 1000 block of Tiverton Avenue -- but did not find the suspect. LAPD said they also searched the building with K-9s.

The suspect was not found.

Police first responded to the scene after a woman called around 4 p.m. and said that her ex-boyfriend was armed with a gun inside her residence when she arrived home.

Authorities blocked off the entrance to the building as they searched the area. One father told CBS2's Tom Wait that he experienced tense moments when he learned his 10-year-old child was in the building with a friend without adult supervision. They were eventually able to make contact via Skype and the kids were determined to be safe.

Nobody was reported to be injured in the incident.
