SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A firefighter was injured while battling a structure fire at a 1-story commercial building in Sylmar on Saturday, authorities said.
Firefighters arrived to the scene around 11:30 a.m., when smoke could be seen billowing through the roof of the building at 15513 Cobalt Street.
In the course of the firefight, one firefighter fell about 20 feet through the roof, LAFD spokesman Erik Scott said. He was quickly extricated, treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital in fair to serious condition.
The firefighter suffered a hand injury but was not burned, Scott said.
About 40 firefighters knocked the fire down in 22 minutes.
