Large Bear Puts Monrovia Neighborhood On Edge

MONROVIA (CBSLA.com) —   A large bear put a Monrovia neighborhood on edge Thursday evening.

And when the same bear climbed a tree and decided to hang out, out came the lookie loos.

"My caregiver saw the bear in the tree he said Bob you gotta come look at this bear in the tree. And he said don't go outside. And I said why they won't bother you," said 89-year-old Robert Zamaripa, the homeowner.

"He went to the pool. took a drink of water and went behind the garage and that's all I we saw of him," Zamaripa said.

Last week -- in this same neighborhood -- Jewels the French bulldog, went toe-to-toe with two bears.

"The dog was relaxing on our porch being a dog, sunning herself taking naps like she always does, two bears come on the yard and she wasn't having it," said Fernandez.

Jewels owner, posted the video online and overnight the dog became an internet sensation, because she lived up to every bit of her breed, showing the bears who's boss.

"She usually plays with lizards and chases butterflies and she  hangs around with peacocks and stuff in the yard and relaxes that's why we were all so shocked she did that," Fernandez said.

Jewels owner suspects the bear he saw in the tree Thursday is one of the bears she chased away.
