19-Year-Old Woman Killed In Sherman Oaks Hit-And-Run, Police Search For Suspect

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) —  A 19-year-old woman was killed early Sunday morning when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver as she attempted to cross the street with her boyfriend, authorities said.

Police responded to the scene near the corner of Moorpark Street and Matilija Avenue in Sherman Oaks shortly after 2:15 a.m.

Police said it was there a burgundy sedan with tinted windows struck and killed the woman.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her boyfriend was uninjured.

The driver of the car returned to the scene shortly after the crash, witnesses said.

The driver reportedly rolled down a car window, paused, then rolled the window up and drove away.

"It makes me so angry because it's like that person is still out there, you know? Whether they know what they did, don't know what they did. They're still out there," Willow Roth, a witness, said.

The woman's identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police said the suspect's vehicle sustained major front-end damage.

Anyone with information on the crash was being asked to contact the LAPD.
