Suspect Arrested, Hospitalized After Shootout With Deputies In City Of Industry

CITY OF INDUSTRY (CBSLA.com) — A gunman who exchanged gunfire with sheriff's deputies in the City of Industry late on Friday night was hospitalized on Saturday with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

No deputies were hurt in the incident, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The encounter took place at around 11:55 p.m. Friday on the 13300 block of Crossroads Parkway North near the 60 Freeway, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Deputies initially responded to a call that the man was acting suspiciously.

The suspect, identified by authorities as a 41-year-old Hispanic man, fled when authorities arrived. Deputies conducted a search for the suspect.

During the search, the suspect fired shots at the deputies. The suspect also hid in the foliage next to the 60 Freeway, the sheriff's department said.

The suspect was ordered several times to surrender to deputy personnel, but did not comply.

Special Enforcement Bureau officers then arrived and took the suspect into custody after numerous attempts to negotiate his surrender.

The suspect's weapon was recovered at the scene, deputies said.
