LA County Jails Closed To Visitors After Inmate Briefly Escapes

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — All Los Angeles County jails are closed to visitors on Saturday and Sunday to allow for a review of security practices in visiting areas after a prisoner briefly escaped from the Men's Central Jail on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday, an inmate assaulted sheriff's deputies and then ran out of the jail through the visitor's area, deputies said. Deputies chased him on foot and he was caught on Rosabell Street near Vignes Street.

Three deputies suffered minor injuries. The suspect was hospitalized for injuries suffered from attempting to climb through barbed wire and falling off a wall, deputies said.

The inmate was not identified. The nature of his offense was also not known.
