Carnitas Back On The Menu At 90 Percent Of Chipotle Restaurants

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Pork lovers, its time to come back to Chipotle.

The restaurant announced Monday that it is again serving carnitas in 90 percent of its restaurants and expects to have the meat option back in all of its restaurants by the end of November.

Chipotle stopped serving carnitas at more than a third of its restaurants back in April after a routine audit found inconsistencies between the supplier's operation and Chipotle's pork protocol. The fast-casual restaurant prides itself on serving "food with integrity."

Chipotle has been able to replenish its pork supply by working with United Kingdom-based Karro Food. The company says that while it prefers domestic sources for all its meat, conventionally raised pork in the U.S. does not meet Chipotle's high standards for animal welfare.

Carnitas should now be available for tacos, burritos and bowls in all U.S. locations except in the Cleveland and Atlanta areas, and in North and South Carolinas.
