Barcelona's Lionel Messi Out 7-8 Weeks After Injuring Knee

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will miss 7-8 weeks after injuring his knee in La Liga game against Las Palmas on Saturday.

Messi was injured early on during Saturday's match at Camp Nou when he fell to the ground after a shot attempt.

He was taken out of the game in the 10th minute, and replaced by Munir El Haddadi.

Messi was taken to the hospital where his injured knee was examined, but was able to return to the stadium before the final whistle blew.

His status is now in doubt for the November 21st match against Real Madrid, commonly referred to as "El Clasico".

Barcelona released an official statement saying, "Tests carried out on Leo Messi have confirmed that the player has suffered a tear in the internal collateral ligament of his left knee. The time out will be approximately between seven and eight weeks."

Despite losing it's star player early on in the game, Barcelona was able to win the game 2-1.

The last time Messi missed a game due to injury was in November of 2013.
