Family Of Former Firefighter Who Disappeared In August Without A Trace Seeks Public's Help

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A family of a former firefighter who disappeared without a trace asked for the public's help on Wednesday in locating him.

Steve G. Voegtli is a retired Ventura County firefighter who vanished more than a month ago from his Simi Valley home.

Police, his family and friends have no idea what happened to him.

"It's really difficult," said Chris Voegtli, the missing man's son.

Voegtli says his dad has been diagnosed with the early onset of Alzheimer's disease and left on foot without extra clothes, a phone, or money on Aug. 12.

They hope someone is caring for the 63-year-old without knowing he's left a devastated family behind.

"He's always been trusting of everyone and really outgoing so part of me would like to think that's definitely a possibility," Voegtli said.

"He didn't tell anybody he was going anywhere. He just went missing." Cmdr. David Livingstone of the Simi Valley Police Department said.

Livingstone says every inch of the area surrounding the missing man's home has been thoroughly searched and every promising lead has turned up empty.

"We're very concerned," Livingstone added.

Police say the department has received numerous leads and will thoroughly follow-up on tips received.

Anyone with more information about his whereabouts was asked to call Detective Dan Swanson at (805) 583-6950.
