Suspected Car Thief Leads Police On Short, Wild Pursuit Through Valley

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A man is in custody after leading police on a short pursuit through the San Fernando Valley.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the blue four-door sedan the suspect was driving was reported stolen. During the chase, the driver weaved in and out of traffic, many times driving on the wrong side of the road.

The chase ended about 15 minutes later on Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Ryamer Street in the Valley Glen area, where black smoke started coming out of the back of the vehicle, which eventually stopped.

That's when the suspect got out of the car, put his hands on the back of his head, and lay on his stomach heeding police's orders.

Officers quickly moved toward the car with guns drawn to check and see if anyone else was inside. It turned out no one else was in the car. Officers swamped over the suspect and arrested him.

The pursuit started at about 3:20 p.m near Nordhoff Street and Tobias Avenue. No one was hurt.
