SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — A homeowner who shot an intruder was detained on Friday while authorities investigated the incident in San Pedro.

Shortly before 3 a.m., officers were sent to a home located in the 200 block of West 11th Street for report of a break-in and shooting, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned a homeowner shot an intruder in his head when he found him inside of the residence.

Paramedics transported the suspect to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in critical condition where he later died. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Police have detained the homeowner while detectives investigated the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
