Protesters Descend On Reagan Library, Taking Issue With GOP Candidates On Immigration Issues
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of protesters lined up outside of the Reagan Library in Simi Valley on Wednesday afternoon in advance of the second Republican presidential debate to voice their concerns about Republican candidates' stances on immigration issues.
Many of the protesters, organized by human rights and labor groups, began to show up outside the venue around 12 p.m. as they hoped to make an impression on candidates as they passed through the entrance. Of all the candidates, Donald Trump appeared to draw the most criticism.
"I feel Donald Trump is spreading the most hate," one protester said.
But, more broadly, protesters said they were concerned about the general tenor of the immigration debate, including the use of the term "anchor babies" to describe children born to non-citizens in the U.S.
"I think it's a dehumanizing word," one protester said.
