The Lakers originally traded with the Phoenix Suns for Nash in 2012, in exchange for four draft picks -- first rounders in 2013 and 2015 and second rounders in 2013 and 2014.
The Warriors' hiring of Nash comes after the Dallas Mavericks reportedly tried to lure Nash out of retirement in order to return to play for the Dallas team.
Nash was an 8-time All-Star, and won the NBA MVP award in back-to-back years in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.
Nash joins a coaching staff led by Steve Kerr, and will be mentoring a back-court featuring reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
