LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Former NBA MVP and Lakers point guard Steve Nash is reportedly joining the Golden State Warriors coaching staff as a player development consultant.

The hiring looks to end Nash’s ongoing mentoring of Lakers guards Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell.

The Lakers originally traded with the Phoenix Suns for Nash in 2012, in exchange for  four draft picks — first rounders in 2013 and 2015 and second rounders in 2013 and 2014.

The Warriors’ hiring of Nash comes after the Dallas Mavericks reportedly tried to lure Nash out of retirement in order to return to play for the Dallas team.

Nash was an 8-time All-Star, and won the NBA MVP award in back-to-back years in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.
