Man Files Suit Alleging Westfield Corp. Let The Promenade In Woodland Hills Fall Apart

WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A local business owner has filed suit against the Westfield Corp. alleging that it let The Promenade in Woodland Hills fall apart.

Yossi Kviatkovsky owns The Rack, a sports bar and restaurant, one of the few remaining businesses at the mall.

"You wouldn't call this a mall," Kviatkovsky said. "This place is just basically abandoned and we have to fend for ourselves."

On Monday morning, Kviatkovsky snapped photographs of women he says are homeless and come to the mall to sleep.

"And here's one of our favorite homeless with his backpack. He moves around and talks to himself all day in the mall," Kviatkovsky said.

At the food court, the options are sparse.

"This is probably the only mall in Westfield's properties where a McDonald's has shut or closed," he said.

Yelp reviews are mostly dismal.

One user writes, "This place is more dead than a funeral home," while another said it, "Felt like a ghost town."

Outside, there are cracks all over the road.

"There's no greenery. There's cigarette butts everywhere," he said.

The mall's competition is only getting tougher.

The Village at Westfield Topanga is just down the street and will soon be opening.

Kviatkovsky says Westfield has left The Promenade in the dust along with his request for help.

"I have 10 years left on my lease and I have nobody that will buy this place," he said.

Security at the mall says Westfield's Topanga location handles all media calls. CBS2 reached out to them for comment before the close of business, but haven't heard back.
