Traffic Delays Expected At LAX Due To Upper Level Roadway Repairs

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Traffic delays were expected on Thursday in preparation for the next phase of upper level roadway repairs at Los Angeles International Airport.

According to airport police, the second phase of the $32.4 million second level roadway repair project aims to fix surface cracks, spalling, deteriorating concrete and shallow reinforcing steel within the central terminal area.

Adding a new layer of polyester concrete to the 31-year-old roadway will expand it's life span an additional 30 years, officials explained.

Construction has been scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. on Monday. Contractors will work five to six nights per week.

Authorities explained the upper level roadway will not completely close during construction.

Passengers will always have access to the terminals, however, vehicle lanes will be periodically restricted.

However, motorists should plan to expect delays while entering and exiting the airport, and when dropping off passengers in the late evenings and early mornings.

According to airport police, the second phase of the project is slated to be finished before Thanksgiving.
