Michelle Katz, MSN, LPN is an exemplary example of why receiving an advanced education benefited her career. Katz is an expert in her field and is a regular contributor on "Real Money" segments of ABC World News Tonight. She helps make health care accessible to those who may not have thought they could afford the care they needed.

Ms. Katz chose Georgetown University because no other school was offering degree programs in health care management. The course "Managing Integrated Delivery Systems" had the most impact on her career. At the time, she states, "Georgetown University was the only school offering this type of program in the United States." Michelle had tremendous passion for this line of work. Coming out of surgery and struggling to afford to pay for classes, working four jobs and going to school; she still had the perseverance to graduate.

One of Katz's teachers, Patricia Cloonan, had a special impact on her career because she challenged Michelle and believed that through adversity she could overcome her challenges by sticking with the goal of continuing her education. Ms. Katz states, "It was a lesson she taught me earlier on that was extremely valuable in such an intense program. Face your challenges and think beyond them because this was just the beginning." Ms. Katz  pioneered the role of the health care advocate, wrote one of the first books dedicated to helping people save money in healthcare through her own experiences and created the role of a healthcare consumer expert on national television.
