Millions Of Southland Residents Expected To Travel For Labor Day Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Millions of Southland residents are expected to travel on Friday for Labor Day weekend.

According to the Automobile Club of Southern California, about 2.5 million residents will commute this weekend, which is a one percent increase from 2014.

City officials warned the public to expect busy streets and freeways, along with heavy congestion at Los Angeles International Airport.

About 835,500 travelers will pass through LAX between today and Monday, airport officials added.

This record-breaking number of travelers is reportedly up seven percent since 2014.

Airport officials explained more than 228,000 people are expected to fly today, and 216,700 passengers on Monday.

As more than 310,600 vehicles plan to pass through the Central Terminal area, authorities advised travelers to consider using public transportation to travel to and from the airport this weekend.

About two million travelers will drive, 347,000 to fly, and 150,000 to use bus, train, cruise or other transportation, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

A survey has shown top destinations for Southland residents include San Diego, Las Vegas, San Francisco, the Central Coast and the Grand Canyon.
