Robbery Suspect Wanted In Ransack Of Westlake-Area Apartment

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police asked for the public's help Friday in identifying a robbery suspect who beat a man he befriended and whose home he ransacked.

A man approached another man at the corner of 8th and Alvarado streets about 5 a.m. on June 5 and asked if he knew a mutual friend, Los Angeles police officials said.

The two became friends and they went to one of the men's apartment to wait on their mutual friend, police said. But after several hours, the first man began to use the cell phone of the homeowner, and when he asked for the phone back, the other man became angry and beat him, hitting him several times in the head and body, according to police.

The man ransacked the homeowner's apartment and used his phone to text someone, later demanding the exact address.

The homeowner, afraid that there would be more people coming to his apartment, jumped out of a window and ran away.

Police the man then took property from the apartment and fled on foot.

The robber was described a Hispanic man, 23 years old, with black hair, brown eyes, about 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds. He wore glasses, a white long-sleeved shirt, light blue jeans, black shoes with white shoe laces, and was possibly named Carlos Rivas.

Anyone with information about the robber's identity can call LAPD's Rampart Area Robbery Detectives at (213) 484-3629.
