Attorneys To Release Video Of Deadly Police Shooting In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Attorneys for a man shot dead last month in Lakewood are releasing video capturing the moment deputies opened fire.

The video allegedly was taken by someone who witnessed the shooting, which happened near the man's home in the 5500 block of Adenmoor Avenue, according to attorneys Randy Johnson and Steve Carlson.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department say on the morning of July 6 the man, who lawyers have identified as John Berry, rammed a patrol car with his vehicle and fought off deputies' attempts to restrain him and put the car in park. They say deputies used pepper spray and a Taser in an effort to get him out of the vehicle.

During the scuffle, a deputy became crushed between the suspect's driver side door and another vehicle, prompting the other deputies to open fire.

Deputies were initially called to the area after someone reported a man behaving erratically.

Johnson and Carlson have planned a news conference Monday afternoon in front of the man's home to release the video and photos of the shooting.
